I’ve hit pause on finishing a blog I’ve been meaning to get out to begin writing something different that I want to share and stay in the moment of.

I believe many of us find it hard to rest, and to rest properly at least once a week…Let’s say, on a Sunday. Yes, throughout the week we have our moments of laziness and lackluster enthusiasm, but when it is all said and done, are we truly disciplined to rest once the sabbath has risen over the horizon of all our toil?

I believe for many of us, including myself – it is very hard to answer a resounding yes.

It can feel like there is “no end” to it all. That Sunday is just a reminder of the hamster wheel we must trudge on tomorrow. Sunday would seem like a huge waste of “extra” time to get ahead if not utilized.

The truth is that rest is a matter of compound interest, paid out by our Lord himself. He of course is no carnal vending machine for us to blaspheme in this way, but spending time in His word, gathering around your family of other saints and engaging in each other’s lives is something every man on earth needs, and cannot do without.

You could suppress that truth of course, but you wind up in a mess later on. You need deliberate time with your Father at his dinner table, ready to nourish, correct and encourage you.

You could feed off the world’s version of rest which is really about distraction therapy. Distracting you from the reality you are made in the image of God and are in need of spiritual water to drink. Just like if you were to ignore the signals of your body telling you of dehydration, you would eventually slow down to a wither of yourself.

Take your rest as seriously as you take your weekly responsibilities, friends. God love’s a responsible person. He loves an honest and humble person. He wants his people to know his rest, and to move out into the world in strides of strength.

โ€œCome to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.โ€ Matthew 11:28-30
